Forklift Parts in More Detail
A forklift is made of many components. The main parts that make up a lift truck are the frame of the truck, the engine parts, the overhead guard, the wheels and the tilt cylinders. Also, a forklift has different types of attachments. All the components making up a forklift are all essential as they work together to make the equipment's functions possible. The following paragraphs describe several of the lift truck parts in detail.

The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits on top of the cab area and protects the machinery operator while she or he is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck will injure the driver or damage the controls in the cab. The overhead guard is vital to the frame assembly on various units.

The Mast - Mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame, the mast is the vertical lift truck component made of interlocking rails. The mast allows the forks to move upwards and downwards whilst providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails may either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast can be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.

Forklift Carriage - The carriage is the component that the forks and different other kinds of attachments are mounted to. Actually, the carriage is directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is connected by chains. To allow the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage may have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.

Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack that prevents a load from falling backwards while the carriage is lifted to its full height. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.

Lift Truck Attachments - There are numerous types of attachments which can be fixed directly to the forklifts carriage. Forks are the most common type of attachment. What's more, there are rollers, rotators, L-shaped members, roll clamps, pole handlers and so forth. These various attachments are very useful for moving various types of loads.
