History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during the year 1919. The company was first established by Anton Raky, an engineer. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The initial name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
In the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was obtained by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling equipment. In 1986, the company acquired the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand name in the succeeding years. Now, SMAG is the market leader in the globe, using grabs for agriculture, waste disposal, and worldwide cargo handling applications.
